Science in Greece
Scissors, nutcrackers and pliers: Many everyday objects work with the leverage effect. It was apparently first understood in Greece, where Archimedes first described this physical effect around 200 years before Christ - and also developed the burning glass, the pulley block and the screw in addition to numerous mathematical theories. The first version of a steam engine also originated in Greece: conceived by Heron in the first century AD.
